Dorris spent 30 years volunteering for the Hoop Shoot, first as Lodge Director for Madisonville, Ky., Lodge No. 738. He served as Regional Director of Central Region 9 for 13 years. A fixture at the National Finals for more than 20 years, Dorris embodied the Elks’ quiet network of good deeds. He was a soft-spoken man who was dedicated to the program and willing to pitch in wherever needed, whether chaperoning a table, shagging balls or schlepping equipment.
